Published in 1995 on the occasion of the centennial of Ostad Elahi's birth, Unicity is an album of photographs and memories. Opening with a short biography that is the most comprehensive to date, it traces the development of Ostad Elahi’s system of thought and his practical teachings. Various anecdotes and accounts taken from Ostad’s daily life help to further shed light on the multiple facets of his rich personality.
The second and larger section of the book contains a variety of landscapes, manuscripts, portraits, etc. that provide a visual complement to the text. Collectively, they invite us on a journey through the main phases of Ostad Elahi’s life, both with his family and in the professional and spiritual realms. In the first phase, for example, we see young Ostad with his long hair, dressed in the traditional white dervish garments of the time. In the second phase, we observe him in a different setting altogether, this time among his colleagues or in judicial robes. Finally, in the third phase we witness him among family members, studying at home, playing the tanbur, or simply holding one of his granddaughters in his arms.
Although these photographs appear in chronological order, together they are more than mere illustrations accompanying the text: they create living and moving scenes that help to convey the atmosphere of the time and evoke the remarkable and radiant presence of this special individual.
