Excerpt from Unveiling of the Truths (Kashf ol-Haqâieq)

God is the Creator of all creatures. No one knows where He resides; He is the only One who knows who and what He is. He planned the creation of the universes. This plan, which is the basis of the totality of beings and realities, became the Quiddity and the primordial Substrate. Set in an indefinable place, in a form which is not comparable to any other, and covered in non-color, the whole thing resembled pure water - although it was not water - and it was perpetually moving within an infinite and colorless space. The Quiddity came into existence as the reflection of God, and the primordial Substrate came into existence as the reflection of the Quiddity. This whole was beyond all imagination, and the Quiddity moved about in the spiritual space.

Suddenly, a voice coming from God made itself heard by the Quiddity: ‘Refer to your own origin and come to know your God [...] You are that existent out of which the totality of all possibilities comes into existence, for all power, all might, as well as everything that is in you comes from me.’ The Quiddity said: ‘If You are with me, why don’t I see You?’ The Voice replied: ‘As long as you cannot see yourself, you will not see Me, and as long as you do not know yourself, you will not know Me.’

Then the Voice said: ‘Blaze up within yourself!’ The Quiddity became all aflame within itself and was overwhelmed with rapture. When the Quiddity came back to self-awareness, wherever it looked everything was black. But in the midst of this blackness, which was called ‘the darkness,’ a light like the sun broke through the obscurity.

Those luminous rays flowed forth from the Quiddity and were the only things that appeared in the midst of this blackness. The original space in which the Quiddity moved was all light. That light, however, could not be made manifest within the light itself; it required the darkness to be known. That is the reason why light and darkness must coexist, no matter what the place or situation.

The Voice again said: ‘As long as there was no darkness, your own image could not appear; for the same reason, you must have a kind of corporeality to see My image within yourself. For corporeality is like that darkness, which is why your own image is represented within that darkness.’

The Quiddity asked: ‘How should I find that corporeality? Isn’t this light corporeality?’

And the Voice replied: ‘That light is an emanation flowing from your spirit. But what I mean by ‘body’ is the corporeal ‘covering’ which must extend from yourself to all others. So you must again blaze up, become all aflame within yourself, so that everything that is not you can separate from you and return to its own self. For whatever is not from you has been created by My Will, and I have made you to be its cause. Now blaze up within yourself!’

So the Quiddity became all enflamed within itself, following God’s command. Suddenly, a sound like an explosion struck its ears and something like smoke, like mist or like dust and soot, obscured its vision. Then in an "instant" its view was clear again, and it saw that there was no longer any trace of that darkness or of the radiant light which had emanated from its being.

In the infinite blue space which was its own, the Quiddity saw nothing but its Companions. It then saw three other infinite spaces, in each of which there was also a small assembly. Each spiritual space had its own color. One was the color of fire, but it was not burning. Another was the color of wind, but it was not made of wind. And the third was the color of the earth, verdant green and pleasant, but without any of the materiality of the earth. In each of these three infinite spiritual spaces there appeared many different particles, big and small, more or less shiny and radiant, whose color and nature corresponded to their space and who were in perpetual motion.

In these three spaces, the particles were created in pairs of male and female, and they formed the souls of the totality of all creatures. In the blue color space, there was nothing but the Quiddity and its Companions. Outside these spaces which the souls occupied, the Quiddity saw innumerable planets and stars. The planets were big or small, luminous or dark, cold or warm, etc. Each of them had its own particular color and configuration and each was different from all the others.

Upon each planet, according to its own distinctive natural conditions, there existed many different creatures of various forms, in pairs of male and female, with the same states and structures that we witness today. But absolutely all of these creatures were bodies without life and forms without souls, because their souls were still located in the three spiritual spaces mentioned above, and because God had yet to give the order for the souls to join up with their corresponding bodies.

Among the creatures of each inhabited planet was one particularly noble and superior species which had power and dominion over the other creatures. That is why human beings had dominion over all the other creatures on the planet earth.

Then God said to the Quiddity: ‘You are the mirror of My Being; you reflect My Power and My Thought.’

After having explained to the Quiddity the reason for all of the creatures, God said: ‘Make a signal for all the souls to descend into their corresponding bodies, so that the universe may begin to move and so that they may begin to reproduce.’

And the Quiddity, following the divine command, did make a signal, but the souls did not descend into their bodies. Then God said to the Quiddity: ‘In order for the souls to enter their bodies, it is necessary for your image and that of your Companions to be reflected over all the planets.’

As soon as the souls saw the images of the Quiddity and its Companions, their light immediately sent the souls into a state of ecstasy and they descended into their bodies. So the creatures on all the planets, who had been without life, became animated with life and began to multiply.
